Exegesis

A claim about the text that the Greek will support. For each clause, separate three things: what the Greek requires, what it allows, and what you may not say yet. A commentary comes after that, not before.

  1. Mark the subject, the verb, and the word that joins the clause.
  2. Name the form that changes the sense: article, case, mood, or aspect.
  3. If a form allows two readings, write both. Do not pick one to fit a conclusion.
  4. Write one sentence you can defend. Write one sentence this clause does not authorize.
